Check Out These Books About The Ocean And Ocean Pollution!!!

Whew! Long title! To be honest I had no idea what the title should be so I just stated the post and it turned out to be a long title XD

Anyways, here is a list of five books that have to do or are about ocean pollution!

Plastic Ocean: How A Sea Captain's Chance Discovery Launched A Determined Quest To Save The Oceans

More long titles!

This book was written by Charles Moore, the environmentalist who discovered the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. In the book, Moore writes of his findings and the alarming "secret life of plastics". If you want to learn more about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and how plastics can affect your health, this book is perfect for you! The book is dedicated “To the generation, not yet born, that creates a world where plastic pollution is unthinkable.”

Flush

This book was written by Carl Hiaasen, the author of Hoot, another environmental, but fictional, book. The two books have similar plots, but Flush is not a sequel to Hoot.

Noah's dad is sure that the owner of the Coral Queen casino boat is flushing raw sewage into the harbor--which has made taking a dip at the local beach like swimming in a toilet. He can't prove it though, and so he decides that sinking the boat will make an effective statement. Right. The boat is pumped out and back in business within days and Noah's dad is in the local lock-up.

Now Noah is determined to succeed where his dad failed. He will prove that the Coral Queen is dumping illegally . . . somehow.

If you want a fun fiction book that also addresses environmental issues, get Flush! I know i'll definitely be looking into this.

World Without Fish

This book was written by Mark Kurlansky, author of Cod, Salt, The Big Oyster, and many more. I have never read any of his books so i'm excited to try this out!

I really don't know how to describe this so...

"Mark Kurlansky, beloved award-winning and bestselling author, offers a riveting, uniquely illustrated, narrative nonfiction account for kids about what’s happening to fish, the oceans, and our environment, and what kids can do about it." - Goodreads

Nonfiction, Fiction, biology, economics, evolution, politics, climate, history, culture, food, and nutrition. In a way kids can understand! From reading about this book, I would definitely recommend it, but I'll tell you what I think after I read it!

Be Plastic Clever

This book was written by Amy and Ella Meek, teenage activists on a mission to get rid of single use plastics and to teach young activists how to use their voice.

If you are a budding activist and want to learn more about shouting out for what you believe in and helping make a change, this book is perfect for you!

One Plastic Bag: Isatou Ceesay And The Recycling Women Of The Gambia

This book was written by Miranda Paul, author of Water Is Water: A Book About the Water Cycle, Nine Months: Before a Baby Is Born, Speak Up, and more.

Plastic bags are cheap and easy to use. But what happens when a bag breaks or is no longer needed? In Njau, Gambia, people simply dropped the bags and went on their way. One plastic bag became two. Then ten. Then a hundred.

The bags accumulated in ugly heaps alongside roads. Water pooled in them, bringing mosquitoes and disease. Some bags were burned, leaving behind a terrible smell. Some were buried, but they strangled gardens. They killed livestock that tried to eat them. Something had to change.

Isatou Ceesay was that change. She found a way to recycle the bags and transform her community. This inspirational true story shows how one person's actions really can make a difference in our world.

If you want a uniquely illustrated picture book and to learn about a fellow activist, this book would be a good pick!

And those were all of my recommendations! I'm really sorry you haven't heard from me in a bit (It's only been a week, but), but this post took a REALLY long time to write.

Have you read any of these books? Are you going to look into some? Do you have any other ocean pollution related books to recommend? Tell me down below in the comments!
